WH Bryan Mining & Geology Research Centre
The WH Bryan Mining and Geology Research Centre (BRC, see http://www.brc.uq.edu.au/) undertakes world-class research directed at reducing geological and mining risk in the areas of Deep Earth Mining, Value Engineering, and Minerals Strategy. It comprises a focused research group of four professors, four full-time research fellows, seven industry-based adjunct researchers, and ten research students.
The Role
The present appointment will be employed within a project funded by the Cooperative Research Centre for Optimising Resource Extraction (CRC-ORE, see www.crcore.org.au). The project will deliver better valuation of mining projects through improved efficient use of very large geological and geo-metallurgical data sets. The project will involve collaboration between researchers at several Australian universities, and entail close collaboration with CRC-ORE industrial partners, especially The Quantitative Group and BHP Billiton, with whose Olympic Dam mine site in South Australia this project will be closely affiliated.
The Person
Applicants should possess, or soon possess, a PhD in statistics, econometrics, or an allied quantitative discipline. You should also have a strong desire to develop a successful and highly-productive research career in mine planning and finance, good general research skills, a strong methodological background, very strong computational skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the capacity to work with multidisciplinary research teams and industry partners.
Remuneration
This is a full-time, fixed term appointment for 2 years and 10 months at Research Academic Level A or Research Academic Level B, depending on qualifications and experience. The remuneration package will be in the range $68,081.95 to $85,850.63 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $79,655 to $100,455 p.a.).
