Subject: EPSRC Centres for Doctoral Training - ICT Theme engagement
Dear Professor Plumbley,
EPSRC supports PhD studentships through 3 main routes: Doctoral Training Grants, Centres for Doctoral Training and Industrial CASE. In 2009, EPSRC made a major investment in Centres for Doctoral Training (CDTs). Following a mid-term review in 2011, planning has begun to issue a call for further CDT investment in early 2013. The call will require both new and existing centres to apply against priority areas. As part of this planning, the ICT Theme wishes to seek your views on UK skills need in ICT areas and those particularly those which would benefit from a cohort approach.
The Theme has already been in early discussions with the ICT Strategic Advisory Team (SAT) on possible priority areas for CDTs. In the attached form we outline this initial thinking and provide an opportunity for you to comment on it as well as provide additional information. We encourage you to share the content of the form widely, though we will only accept responses from you or your nominated representative. Please collate responses you receive as a result of your dissemination. You are not required to complete all sections of the form, just those that you find relevant.
In order for this to contribute effectively to development of priority areas, I ask that you return the form to Christina Turner ([log in to unmask]) by the 09:00 of Monday 9th July. Please note that a general feedback form has been made available through the EPSRC website (http://www.epsrc.ac.uk/newsevents/news/2012/Pages/cdt2013.aspx). Please only submit comments through the ICT survey if they have not already been submitted through this route.
Kind regards,
Christina
Dr Christina Turner
