The Museum is currently looking to recruit a Project Curator for the
AHRC funded project and exhibition Ming Courts and Contacts 1400 - 1450.
This post is to support the lead curators Jessica Harrison-Hall and
Professor Craig Clunas in their timely and effective delivery of the
exhibition, book and conference for the Ming: Courts and Contacts 1400 -
1450 project.
You will support the work of the lead curators in their timely and
effective delivery of the exhibition, book and conference for the Ming:
Courts and Contacts 1400 - 1450 project. This will include other
curatorial duties in relation to the Museum’s Chinese collections. You
will play a major role in the arrangements of the 3 day conference to be
held in November 2014 at the British Museum. In addition you will also
be expected to take an active role in developing the public programming
including gallery talks and events for all types of audience.
You will need to have a good knowledge of Chinese art history, history,
archaeology, especially of the Ming period, to be able to communicate
fluently in Chinese (Mandarin). You will also need excellent
communication skills in written and spoken English. Knowledge of the
material culture of the early Modern period in the Middle East, Central
Asia or Southeast Asia is desirable. We are looking for a flexible
individual who is both a good communicator, has a good academic
background and is excellent team player.
