Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Statistical Genetics
Institute of Psychiatry - MRC Social, Genetic and Developmental Psychiatry Centre
Applications are invited for the post of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Statistical Genetics to join the MRC Social, Genetic and Developmental Psychiatry (SGDP) Centre and forge an independent academic career by undertaking world-class research, attracting grant funding and collaborating with a range of academics.
The MRC SGDP Centre's mission includes research on the impact of and interplay between genetic, environmental and developmental factors. The research excellence of the department was judged by the RAE 2008 (Research Assessment Exercise) to be "world leading". The Centre provides an unrivalled opportunity to benefit from interdisciplinary research excellence. Centre research projects have developed large clinical and population cohorts with extensive phenotypic and molecular data. The post-holder will have access to a wealth of data including large-scale sequencing studies from cutting-edge genetic technology in the Molecular Genetics Laboratory together with high-performance computing facilities.
The post-holder will perform both independent, methodological research and collaborative research, working alongside SGDP researchers investigating the genetic contribution to behavioural traits and psychiatric disorders. Opportunities to teach and supervise students arise through the Centre's MSc and PhD Programmes and the annual Summer School.
A strong network of researchers exists through KCL's Statistical Genetics Unit. Further links with bioinformaticists at the specialist Biomedical Research Centre at the IoP and SLaM will expand the potential for collaborative research projects.
The successful applicant will have a PhD in an appropriate scientific area, experience of productive multi-disciplinary research, and a track record of high-quality peer-reviewed publications.
This is a permanent post. The appointment will be made, dependent on relevant qualifications and academic profile, on either Grade 7 scale (Lectureship) or Grade 8 (Senior Lectureship): currently £40,463 to £47,809 (Grade 7) or £49,169 to £56,606 (Grade 8) per annum, inclusive of £2,323 London Allowance.
