University of Exeter, College of Life and Environmental Sciences
Experimental Officer - Medical Statistics
Salary £31,948 per annum
Fixed term for a period of 36 months
This full time post is primarily to support research and training activities in the Systems Biology theme within the College of Life & Environmental Sciences and the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry as part of a new Biomedical Informatics Hub, which is funded by a recent Wellcome Trust Institutional Strategic Support Fund award. This Biomedical Informatics Hub will provide informatics support to a range of emerging technologies and support multiple research areas.
The post holder will provide statistical support advice and training to Exeter-based researchers involved in health services research with particular emphasis to the statistical analysis and design of trials for complex interventions within the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry (PCMD) and Mood Disorders Centre (MDC). In the first instance, it is expected that the appointee will contribute to standing collaborative research projects.
The post would be particularly suitable for newly qualified postgraduates in medical statistics wishing to further develop their statistical expertise and experience in supporting clinical trials and health services research.
Over time there will be an expectation to leverage future funding, and to become a co-applicant on new projects on which the post holder will personally undertake statistical analyses on behalf of collaborative research colleagues and contribute to the resulting research papers.
The post holder will also contribute to statistical workshops at PhD and post-doctoral level within the University. PCMD and the MDC already have considerable success in obtaining funding for and then effectively delivering large-scale clinical trials (over GBP 8 million) of complex interventions from the NIHR, MRC and Wellcome Trust. The post will be based jointly in PCMD and MDC.
