Dear colleagues,
I am contacting you with regard to an event we are holding tomorrow evening at the British Library as part of our Myths and Realities Series of Public Debates held in conjuntion with the AcSS. The event is entitled 'Growing Old: Something to Fear or Celebrate?
The speakers are Chris Phillipson, Professor of Applied Social Studies and Social Gerontology, Keele University and Mary Gilhooly, Professor of Gerontology, School of Health Sciences and Social Care, Brunel University who will discuss how images of later life take two extremes, adverts featuring glowing post-retirement couples enjoying life vs lonely singletons in need of expensive care or support and what the evidence actually says about older lives and whether we should fear or celebrate prospect of increased longevity?
The event will be chaired by Fi Glover, BBC journalist and presenter.
