I got this e-mail below from an undergraduate of mine doing a dissertation on the Bali bombing and I found the idea of a PR company 'handling' the media in response to the bombings intriguing.
I hadn't thought about this before, but given the way in which PR companies are 'handling' dictators (Obiang of Equatorial Guinea is one example) it seems logical - it would be good to pass on any relevant work on this to my student, so I wondered if there's anyone out there who knows of similar PR involvement in managing perceptions of terrorism/terrorist attacks?

Hi Jon,
I have emailed someone In Indonesia who runs a magazine in Bali and I
have asked him for an interview and also if he has any contacts that
would be able to discuss the bombings in bali and its effects. He has
agreed to do an interview and also says he can get me into contact
with the PR company who handled the media centre after the bombings
and also people in Bali who were affected. Do you think these two
interviews would be useful for my dissertation? I was thinking about
having two or maybe three interviews with people affected by the
business side and then talk to two or three locals so i can compare
the different experiences.
Thanks,
