Dear All,
Please see an advertisement for a PhD in GIS and Renewable Energy in the University of Liverpool.
Project Title: An expert system service for sustainable planning in the renewable energy sector
Applications are invited for a graduate to join the School of Environmental Science and Entrust Ltd for a funded three-year period of research leading to the award of PhD.
This exciting project concerns the research and development of a GIS based planning framework for the UK and European renewable energy sector. The planning process associated with the development of renewable energy sites can be convoluted and time consuming. This project seeks to encompass all aspects of the UK's and EU renewable energy planning process, including economic, environmental and social considerations within a GIS. Incorporating these parameters within a GIS will provide a framework that optimises the time required to progress a renewable energy project through the development and planning process. It also allows spatial trade-offs in terms of economic, environmental and social considerations to be assessed by the site developer.
A degree (First or Upper Second) in computer science, planning or GIS is required. It is intended that the post will begin on 1st October 2012 with a tax free £16,000 stipend per annum (tbc).
This role is funded through the Centre for Global Eco-Innovation which is the only centre of its kind in Europe and is part financed by the European Regional Development Fund. It brings together the expertise, resources and global contacts of Lancaster University and the University of Liverpool, together with international planning consultancy Entrust Ltd. SME-led collaborative R&D partnership with two world-ranking universities underpin the development of new products, processes and services for the global marketplace, which by virtue of their use, manufacture, raw materials, reuse or disposal, deliver positive environmental impacts.
Working alongside companies facing ‘real life’ research challenges you will not only be exposed to academic excellence but will gain valuable work experience during the 3 year project.
