Anyone care to comment on why it might be that the map of democrat-voting states from 2008 (see for instance http://www.dashboardinsight.com/articles/new-concepts-in-business-intelligence/maps-of-the-2008-us-presidential-election-results.aspx) overwhelmingly maps onto those states that are being punished with the highest US gas price rises (http://www.slate.com/articles/business/map_of_the_week/2012/06/highest_gas_price_increases_in_seattle_phoenix_colorado_springs_denver_honolulu_.html?wpisrc=newsletter_slatest)? A punishment by Republican-funding gas distributors? A plot to make Dem states less happy and less likely to vote/vote Obama? I think we should be told...
