Dear list members,
Please find below, details of a forthcoming conference, on Site
Investigation at 15 Hatfields, London SE1, on 27 June.
Its full title is: Accurately assessing risk to satisfy changing
regulatory requirements and ensure cost-effective, justifiable site
investigation.
One of the main issues is the impact of the changes to statutory
guidance and the planning regime on how site investigations are carried
out. Another is how to handle rising volumes of increasingly accurate
site data.
Subjects examined include: how best to share local authority resources;
personnel and cost issues in relation to the changes; how to determine
normal background levels and how to report them; the four categories in
relation to risk assessment and what data is needed and what new
toxicological data is required.
Other areas covered include the design, implementation, investigation
and assessment of asbestos in soils; minimising the effects of
uncertainty in relation to sampling; techniques for improving the
reliability of, and confidence in, sampling and measurements; targeting
key risk drivers for ground gas; high frequency monitoring; best
practice techniques for the transport, handling and preservation of
samples; the effects of new procedures on the validity of sampling data;
improving the credibility of sampling procedures; and sharing data
between industrial archaeologists, contaminated land officers and
brownfield risk assessors.
Speakers include: Christopher Taylor, Brent Council; Hugh Mallett, Buro
Happold; Mark Cave, BGS; Simon Firth, Firth Consultants; Mike Quint,
independent consultant; James Clay, Campbell Reith; Professor Mike
Ramsey, University of Sussex; Hazel Davidson, Derwentside Environmental
Testing Services; Steve Wilson, Environmental Protection Group and Dr
Mike Nevell, University of Salford. It is chaired by Stephan Jefferis of
Environmental Geotechnics.
It also qualifies for CPD points.
