Just a quick query for list members with a stronger background in the
religious conflicts and players of 16th century England.
The other day in deep storage at the Unievrsity of Ballarat from the old
school of mines material from the 19th century we found an original printing
of Thomas Bilson's "The Effect of Certain Sermons Touching the Full
Redemption of mankind by the death and blood of Christ Jesus" from 1599.
So what interests me is how important is this text, as it would seem to me
to be incredibly important for both Bilson's biography and the decensus
controversy in 16th England, which led in part, to the English Civil War
amongst other things. Though I am not sure how common 1599 prints of this
book are today. Main thing being I am looking at putting together an entry
for it when it goes up on digital cataloging. It was originally owned by
Thomas Hendry according to handwriting inside the inside cover. It is
bound in a really unusual sort of leather.
Cheers
David
