Dear GNHRE members,
I am delighted to report that the Alfonso Ortiz Center for Intercultural Studies has just joined as our latest institutional partner. We also have new individual network members listed, Christina Voigt and Beverly Singer.
The GNHRE 'Re-imagining the Relationship between Human Rights and the Environment' international seminar at Onati went very well. Some powerful, critical thinking took place - the results of which will hopefully be forthcoming in a book resulting from the seminar.
Our book series is now officially, contractually birthed - though the name has changed from 'Interrogations' to 'Critical Reflections on Human Rights and the Environment' for marketing reasons. Each title, however, will retain its 'Interrogating...' type format. We are delighted to announce that the first officially contracted book in the series will be by Baronness Mary Warnock: 'Interrogating Ownership'. Professor Janet Dine is due to write on 'Interrogating Growth', and Professor Karen Morrow on 'Interrogating Ecosystem Services'. A very exciting start!
Work on transferring the research repository (which contains nearly 2000 sources) from the old site to the new site is about to begin in earnest. Louis Kotze (Deputy Director of the GNHRE) has recruited some able research students, who with the help of Onita Das (our research officer) and Tim Blackman (the IT manager) will be transferring sources to make the repository fully available on the new site as soon as is feasible. They will then update it thoroughly.
Finally, look out for the Special Edition of the Journal of Human Rights and the Environment, just published, and shortly coming out in a stand alone hardback book too, 'Should Trees Have Standing? 40 Years On'. Edward Elgar have continued to offer their concession on book prices to GNHRE members. Please do take advantage of it!
Warm regards,
Anna
