We Face Forward (Toward the City):
Explorations in West African urbanism
7th September, E6 Urban Lab, Salford
In conjunction with the ‘We Face Forward’ season of West African art and music in Manchester a one day workshop is organised to explore some of the critical urban issues of the region.
Important questions will be explored throughout the day with a series of debates and discussions taking forward our understanding of ‘the city yet to come’ (Simone, 2004) and providing a forum to develop a multi-disciplinary understanding of processes of West African urbanism and the urban cultures of the region.
We welcome contributions from academics, practitioners, activists, artists and so forth that will include a 10-30 minute presentation, submission of a short paper (for an informal publication) and the opportunity to display your work at our exhibition.
Abstracts are invited on themes including, but not limited to;
- architecture, planning and urban design
- art, design, music and photography
- sustainability and energy
- urbanism and geography
- culture
- city level politics
Attendance is free and is followed by the opening of an exhibition around the same issues.
Please submit proposed abstract, length of presentation, contact details, institution etc to Jonathan Silver ([log in to unmask])
