OPEN DAY FOR POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES IN GERONTOLOGY AND RESEARCH METHODS FOR SOCIAL SCIENCE AND HEALTH AT KING’S COLLEGE LONDON, 11th JUNE 2012, 2pm – 4.30pm
The Institute of Gerontology at King’s College London offers a number of programmes for those with an interest in older people and ageing societies, as well as in research methods for social science and health. The flagship MSc GERONTOLOGY has been training health professionals including geriatricians, old age psychiatrists, GPs, professionals from the medical and health sciences and others with an interest in ageing and later life for over 20 years. Holders of the Diploma in Geriatric Medicine are exempt from one third of this course. We also offer an MSc/MA AGEING AND SOCIETY, aimed at the wider social science community who wish to develop their knowledge and understanding of the experience of ageing, ageing societies and policies for an ageing world and, together with colleagues from the Department of Political Economy, an MA PUBLIC POLICY AND AGEING, aimed at students with an interest in government, NGOs, politics, policy, the voluntary sector, development work and comparative studies aiming to develop specialist understanding of policy making for old age and ageing populations. We have a thriving multi-disciplinary PhD programme.
All our programmes can be taken full or part time. Many alumni have gone on to Consultant and other key specialist positions in the health sectors, and wider policy, government and academic posts. In addition we offer nested options in the form of Postgraduate Diplomas and Certificates.
We have developed a tightly focussed POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN RESEARCH METHODS for Health and Social Science. This postgraduate programme is aimed at professionals and practitioners who need to develop their understanding and practical application of quantitative and qualitative research methods in the health, policy and government sectors. Requiring attendance on one day a week for ten weeks from January to March, and then for one full week in mid-May, this Postgraduate Certificate is assessed by coursework only, and no prior knowledge of research methods is necessary.
For undergraduate medical students, we now offer an Intercalated BSc GERONTOLOGY that has attracted students from medical schools all over the country.
You can find out more through our website at www.kcl.ac.uk/gerontology , but we realise that many prospective students would like the opportunity to meet with members of the Department as well as current students to discuss the programmes that we offer.
We would be delighted if you could join us at our Open Day for the Institute of Gerontology undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. This will be held on Monday 11th June in the Council Room on the King’s College London Strand Campus. Our Open Days are an excellent way for you to find out more about our programmes, ask the academic staff any questions and discuss any issues informally, as well as meeting current students and finding out more about the work of the department. Many of our current and past students have commented on how useful these events were to them in planning their studies.
