PhD Studentship: Dorothy Richardson, Letters and Fiction
Research Topic: Dorothy Richardson: Correspondence and Fiction, Texts and Intertexts.

Abstract: The doctoral student will work on Dorothy Richardson’s fiction and correspondence. Copies of the complete letters are held at Keele. The student will work on a the project that uses the letters and fiction, particularly her novel cycle Pilgrimage, to document Richardson’s key influences and intertexts. The doctoral thesis will be a study in the importance of Richardson’s key influences and intertexts to Pilgrimage. Examples would include: feminist writers such as Charlotte Perkins Gilman and Oliver Schreiner; other writers of the period, such as H. G. Wells, James Joyce, Marcel Proust; philosophical influences, such as Emerson, Henri Bergson and Nicolai Berdyaev.
Within these parameters the student will have the freedom to create their own project under the supervision of Professor Scott McCracken.
