The Scottish Jewish Archives Centre, based in Garnethill Synagogue in Glasgow (Scotland’s oldest), is currently celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary. A silver jubilee event was held on 29 April in the form of a presentation on ‘Memories of the Jewish Gorbals’, given by the Centre’s Director, Harvey Kaplan, and attended by 130 people. An anniversary appeal is also running (the Centre’s income in 2010 was fairly modest, about £9,000, with 2007 being the most recent best year, when it raised £56,000). The next open day will take place on 20 May. The Centre’s website - http://www.sjac.org.uk/ - contains a brief overview of the collections, details of book and DVD publications for sale, links and contact information. A twice-yearly newsletter was commenced in 1989.
