thanks for announcing the events of the coming weekend at Watermans;
If some of you are around to visit, it might be interesting to raise some concerns, or thoughts, that I often have
and encounter in other situations as well, and perhaps some of you here are involved in producing and curating digital performances
that neither fit a stage or a gallery or a concert/recital hall.
This coming Saturday my lab company is performing a piece that we are developing which may end up as a film, for lack of an
"accommodation," but at the same time, i wonder how works of this kind might cross into/over to platforms that are or are not typical of certain kinds of sound (that need light & space), movement
(that need space and light), dance that generates the sound that does not need light, and graphic projections that need darkness, no sun (and infrared light for some camera interface, and no infrared light
for other), costumes that need light and electricity, and scenography that needs objects suspended in space (with projection mapping design)...
At Watermans we will be on a proscenium stage (without flyspace, so objects will be static.....hmm); it should be interesting.

"for the time being" explores the sound of movement in a 30-minute premiere of a new stage work inspired by the Russian Futurist opera Victory over the Sun (1913) and its fantastical constructivist designs. Nearly a hundred years ago, the Futurists collaborated on an eccentric vision of a society to come, based on revolutionary fervor of the time. The DAP-Lab’s choreosonic performance, both comic and unsettling in places, is an intimate piece that looks at our current precarious existence in a world full of outworn clichés of revolutions. Featuring four dancers, the work incorporates body-worn-technologies where the structure of the wearable has been developed alongside its interactive and sound generating potential for gestural performance. The artistic premise of the design is to make the activation and presence of sound very visual, tactile and sensual to both the performer and the listener.

This performance is presented as part of Watermans' International Festival of Digital Art 2012 (January - August).
“for the time being” is shown for the first time and will undergo extensive expansion in 2012 before touring internationally The project is supported by the Centre for Contemporary and Digital Performance at Brunel University, London and is part of a three-year collaborative project with artists in São Paulo, Brazil.
