David Adams will be leading his 24th Annual Walk along the Marquis of
Staffords Donningron Wood Canal and Inclined Plane from Lilleshall Abbey
via the site of the Incline to Wilmoor Lane and includes a tour of the the
Abbey ruins from 7.00pm on 11th June, meet in the Abbey Car Park . Walking
time is 3 hours and the cost is £3.00
The walk is one of a series of 4 all described in David's Book The History
of Limestone Mining & Early Canals in Church Aston & Lilleshall

The canal was used to transport Limestone from the Limestone Mines and
Quarries to Lime kilns for agricultural use and for use in the Furnaces of
the Iron Industry in Ironbridge and surrounding areas. The Incline Plane
was later replaced with a very interesting canal Tunnel and Haulage shaft
