"I Hear of Sherlock Everywhere", or, the Curious Incident of the Franchise in the Public Domain.
Sherlock Holmes texts proliferate across multiple media platforms in the manner of a franchise formed around a central intellectual propery, yet most of the Holmes stories are now in the public domain. What questions does this raise with regard to the author function, the brand and the fandom?
