Hi Angie,
We often get emailed by agencies in China and other countries who alert
us to the fact that clients of theirs wish to register domains such as
britishmuseum.com.cn and then offer us the chance to register it first.
We have no way of knowing whether this client exists or not. We too feel
that we can't afford to simply register every domain there is - so we
have a standard response to these emails. If anyone out there also gets
these and/or is interested, I am happy to share our standard response,
prepared by our legal team. Do email me off list,
Best,
Matthew

Subject: Best practice for domain name registration (and preventing
cyber-squatting)
Hello
We've been following what we thought to be best practice and registering
lots of permutations of our domain names to prevent cyber-squatting
(different spellings, hyphenation, different domain suffixes etc). We
don't spend huge sums on it and we've cut back on lots of variations in
recent years, but it feels like it may still be unnecessary. What are
other people doing?
Best
Angie
