We are doing a cookie audit for our sites and will at least be updating our
Privacy notice. I notice some sites are now using a voluntary visitor
consent mechanism where data is being gathered by Google Analytics
'tracking' cookies - the ICO for example. According the letter of the new
law, all sites using Ganalytics in this way will be obliged to do the same
after May 26th. So we are preparing for this too.
My feeling is that browser developers could create a feature in their
standard release that identifies data-gathering cookies for visitors and
gives an interface similar to 'popups' banner, allowing visitors to manage
cookies and consents on these sites. Either way our Ganalytics user sample
will be reduced to those that choose to use the consent mechanism.
Regards
JW
