Dear all, with apologies to anyone receiving this via multiple lists,
We're currently recruiting for a Graduate Trainee Library Assistant to start in September 2012. While we realise that you, dear reader, are unlikely to be our main audience, you may well know someone who does fit the bill, so we'd be very grateful if you could pass these details onto anyone who may be interested in this opportunity. Anyone with further questions is welcome to get in touch.
Thanks and best wishes,
Tom.

The Royal College of Surgeons of England Library is looking to appoint a graduate in any subject who wishes to pursue a career in library/information work and intends to undertake postgraduate training to achieve this. (Please note that you do not need to have graduated recently, and that we will also consider applications from those expected to graduate before August 2012.) This post will provide an excellent opportunity for a new entrant to the profession or someone planning to retrain for a new career in this area.
We're offering a position that will provide appropriate pre-course experience and support you in your applications and preparation for further study. It is offered within the CILIP Graduate Training Opportunities scheme (http://www.cilip.org.uk/jobs-careers/qualifications/graduate-opportunites) and meets the SCONUL Code of Practice for Graduate Trainee positions. We'll give you the opportunity to gain an understanding of the Library and the College as a whole through your tasks and activities, staff training and development activities, and time spent with staff from other departments. Opportunities to gain professional skills, knowledge and insight will come from time spent in the role and with staff in the Library (as well as in Museums and Archives, with whom we work closely); from a structured series of visits to other library/information services in a variety of service settings; and, when appropriate and possible, attendance at external meetings, workshops or courses. You will also have the chance to meet with trainees in similar posts in other libraries.
What are we looking for in you? You'll demonstrate a real interest in, and commitment to, following a career in library/information work, and will be skilled and comfortable in online information environments. You'll be people-focused and a strong communicator, able to work within a team and with a wide range of colleagues and customers. You'll be organised and accurate, able to work to agreed standards and procedures as well as on your own initiative. You'll show a reflective approach to learning and drawing on new experiences, and will be willing to capture, share and reflect to demonstrate your ongoing development. And we'll be confident that, once in post, you'll help us to manage our collections effectively and provide high quality services to all our audiences.
Information can be found in the Directory of CILIP Training Opportunities (http://cilipgradops.camp9.org/Default.aspx?pageId=296508) and on the College website, http://www.rcseng.ac.uk/about/working/index.html?vacancy_id=969. The closing date for applications is 5pm on Friday 13th July. Interviews will be held on Monday 23rd July and Tuesday 24th July.
