Dear Mr Ammann,
Can you please explain to me the paradox that is GRF's partnership / affinity with the Japan Tobacco International Federation?
Given that GRF's raison d'ętre is based on hazards and risk, I find it most odd that, in [presumably] fully accepting at the social and applied science level, the undeniable multi-faceted relationships between development and disasters, GRF should engage in partnership with an industry that deliberately targets under-developed nations, where tobacco promotion and sale is, for the most part, under or totally un regulated, and therefore where the major health hazard and financial drain on already meagre personal livelihood resources that is smoking, is actively encouraged.
I'm sure that, like me, you will also find it most odd to notice that that there is absolutely no mention of the word 'tobacco' on the JTI Foundation website.
Tell me, Mr Ammann, what was it that first attracted your organisation to engage in partnership with the multi-billion dollar tobacco industry?
