Reducing the cost of the Water Framework Directive through Payments for Water Services
9 May 2012, Leeds, Doubletree Hotel
Joint event between the Valuing Nature Network<http://www.valuing-nature.net/> including the IUCN UK NC Peatland Prorgamme and water@leeds<http://www.wateratleeds.org/> on the 9th May.
The aims of the meeting are to exchange knowledge between water companies and other stakeholders, preparing options to:
• address barriers and identify options for meeting WFD objectives in peat uplands
• share examples of practical examples and ideas particularly amongst water companies
• assess the economics of WFD implementation in peat uplands, including how Payments for Ecosystem Services might help reduce the cost of WFD implementation
• identify the best ways to continue sharing knowledge on these issues
The workshop will start with brief overviews of the latest research on scientific and economic aspects associated with meeting WFD requirements in peatland/upland catchments. This will be followed by case studies from water companies associated with our key upland/peatland areas along with perspectives from regulators. Workshops will enable participants to share their own knowledge and experience of these issues.
The event is hosted by water@leeds<mailto:water@leeds> in collaboration with the Valuing Nature Network http://www.valuing-nature.net/projects/valuing-peatlands led by a team from the Universities of Aberdeen and Leeds, IUCN UK Peatland Programme, CEH Bangor, Scottish Agricultural College and the Environmental Sustainability KTN.
Please see attached agenda giving full details and booking links.
