Dear Colleagues,
I'm forwarding an ad from the US. Please could you pass it on to any
potentially interested person.
This is for a temporary job (their Asianist just got hired somewhere
else) but they'll need a permanent replacement from 2013 because the
programme depends on having an Asian historian. For a new PhD seeking a
year (or potentially more) of experience in the US, this job is a pretty
good prospect. It's a very livable place, socially, culturally,
politically, culinarily and financially, and the colleagues are good,
and nice people too. You learn a lot about teaching in a short time, and
the students are keen to learn (not always the case here...). After the
first year you also have a surprising amount of research time. If you
like winter sports or hiking or wilderness activities it's also a great
location to be in.
As you might guess, this was once my job, which I was sorry to leave in
many ways.
Best wishes,
Naomi
