You are correct: "hasVersion" and "isVersionOf" point to resources that are
versions of the described resource -- as you put it, other versions in a "chain
of versions".
I do not know of properties specifically for a terminology's version number;
as you point out, the version designation is sometimes just part of a resource
title.
