TENURE TRACK OR TENURED POSITION IN TRANSPORTATION ENGINEERING which can be filled on any level from assistant professor to tenured professor

The above mentioned position is located in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, see http://civil.aalto.fi/fi/. Based on the department`s strategy, the focus of the research is set on eco-efficient society and sustainable use of natural resources. The research focus of transportation engineering is eco-efficient and intelligent transport. Currently, the department has 12 professors; two of which are professors in transportation engineering. In 2015, the number of department`s tenure track professors is planned to be in total 15, including three professors in transportation engineering.

The research area of the professorship covers widely transportation engineering, especially the analysis and planning of transportation systems, from the strategic to the operative level. The professor's duties include the development of transportation engineering as a research area, which would occur in internationally and nationally recognized high-quality research programs. The professor is responsible for the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral teaching of his own area, and for the development of teaching in this area.

The present call for applications is cross-disciplinary and applicants in all fields of transportation engineering are invited to apply. However, preference will be given to candidates with research fields complementing and supporting the current strong areas of the Department.

The applicant is expected to possess a suitable doctor's degree and he or she should display evidence of high quality activities in research and teaching.

The tenure track is open to talented individuals who have excellent potential for a scientific career. On the basis of their experience and competence, applicants will be placed on any of the three levels of the tenure track system: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Full Professor. The candidates for the first-mentioned are appointed for a fixed term, while the candidates for Associate Professor positions are appointed either permanently or for a fixed term. The full professor positions are permanent positions.

Throughout their careers, those under the academic tenure track system are expected to exercise and guide scientific research, to provide related higher academic education, to follow the advances of their field, to participate in service to the Aalto University community, and to take part in societal interaction and international collaboration in their field. Individuals placed on the Aalto University tenure track for professors have the possibility to advance in their career through regular performance assessments, which take into account their merits in all areas of their scope of duty.

The application materials for the tenure track positions should include at least curriculum vitae in English, a complete list of publications and other works (the 10 most important ones marked), a brief description of your views regarding the future research and teaching development of the field, as well as the names and contact details of possible references. All material should be submitted in English.
