Subject: DataFlow release imminent: what to expect
[cid:image001.png@01CD1D70.29B8C510]<http://www.dataflow.ox.ac.uk/>
We are in the final stages of testing the latest version of our software, which we expect to make available on 26 April. It has a host of improvements (details below), and we hope you’d like to give it a try!
One note: we are calling it a “release candidate.” The software has nearly all the features we plan to include, and we expect it will be robust, but we are releasing the code to the community for extended testing – in order to improve our final release in mid-May. We would appreciate any feedback you can give us.
You can look forward to:
Choice of installation formats – users can install from a debian package, or drop a pre-configured virtual machine into place.
Improved user interface – features are more visible and intuitive.
WebDAV – hugely improved functionality: use the Web to search, work with your files, add metadata, submit files to repositories.... from anywhere in the world.
Easier configuration – easy samba connections, more administrative functions via the web interface, more flexible setup.
SWORD-2 – DataStage can submit files to any SWORD-compliant repository, and DataBank can accept any SWORD-compliant data package.
Documentation in our online wikis, as well as walkthrough videos showing you how to download, install, configure and use DataStage and DataBank.
I will send you an update as soon as the release is ready.
With best wishes,
Katherine
