The Catholic Family History Society (formerly known as the English Catholic Ancestor Society) has been a registered charity since 1985 with its principal object ‘to advance the education of the public in the study of the family history and genealogy of English Catholics’. The Society naturally has a particular focus on the archives of English and Welsh Catholicism which contain nominal data. Services comprise: a journal (CATHOLIC ANCESTOR) published three times a year; printed or CD ROM editions of primary sources; transcripts of mission registers (on deposit with the Catholic National Library); an index of 14,000 English nuns; and a range of events, including an annual day conference (the next on 20 October 2012).
