Dear All,
Out of curiosity, does anyone know if the News Corp channels suffered the same, more, or less piracy and hacking than their rivals?
On the surface, it would appear to be a strong rebuttal for News Corp to show they had more hacking and piracy than their rivals. However, that would raise questions about the company NDS, a News Corp related company, which was supplying security to a large majority of channels.
If the hacking and piracy was bad for everyone, it means NDS may not have had a good product. If the hacking and piracy was higher for News Corp, then it would suggest other things i.e. bad business model undermined the competitors and it still suggests that NDS product may not have been as good as claimed.
If the hacking and piracy are lower at News Corp then there may be other issues at stake.
What will be interesting to see are the records within each company and how they recorded piracy and hacking figures. Perhaps, there will be a "smoking gun" to all of this beyond the thousands of emails already disclosed in a related legal case involving one of the main NDS officials.
Best,
Lawrence

Pay TV piracy hits News
four-year investigation by The Australian Financial Review has revealed a global trail of corporate dirty tricks directed against competitors by a secretive group of former policemen and intelligence officers within News Corp known as Operational Security.
Their actions devastated News's competitors, and the resulting waves of high-tech piracy assisted News to bid for pay TV businesses at reduced prices - including DirecTV in the US, Telepiu in Italy and Austar. These targets each had other commercial weaknesses quite apart from piracy.
