DAGAL (Detailed Anatomy of GALaxies) is a new EU-funded training network between
the academic nodes Instituto de Astrofisica de Canarias in Tenerife, Spain
(coordinator), Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain, the Max Planck
Institute for Astronomy in Heidelberg, Germany, the Laboratoire d'Astrophysique
de Marseille, France, the University of Groningen, the Netherlands, and the
University of Oulu, Finland, and with associated private sector partners
Springer, FRACTAL, and Specim. The network will collaborate very closely with
the Spitzer Survey of Stellar Structure in Galaxies (S4G).
DAGAL invites applications for one junior scientist (Early-Stage Researcher)
position at the IAC in Tenerife (Spain), to work on a study of star formation
histories among and within local galaxies, under the supervision of Drs Johan
Knapen and Alexandre Vazdekis. Successful candidates will spend at least six
months at secondary nodes. In addition, internships are available with our
commercial partners. Further details should be consulted on our webpage before

Duration of the employment contract will be 36 months, starting September 2012.
Financial conditions and benefits are as per EU guidelines, and competitive. We
invite applicants from all nationalities, although EU rules on research
experience and residency apply, as summarised on our website. By the start of
their contract, applicants should ideally have finished the equivalent of a
Masters degree in astrophysics. They should have less than 4 years research
experience, counting from the date they obtained their MSc or equivalent degree,
and they must not hold a PhD. The successful candidate will normally be
registered for a PhD degree at the University of La Laguna.
