Centre of the Cell is a groundbreaking science education centre; online resource and outreach project (www.centreofthecell.org). Exciting plans to create a second learning facility (Neuron ‘Pod’) are well underway. Centre of the Cell is now seeking an exceptional individual to lead their learning and outreach programmes with a strong focus on science education; public engagement and widening participation. The Head of Learning post is funded by the Drapers’ Company and the post-holder will be expected to develop strong links the Drapers Academy (co-sponsored by Queen Mary University of London).
The post-holder will ensure that Centre of the Cell reaches its target audiences and help school students, teachers and families gain access to unique, high quality teaching and learning resources relating to cell biology and biomedical science.
We are seeking a flexible, ambitious, motivated and inspirational individual with a degree or equivalent in biological sciences who has experience of managing a learning team in a museum, science centre, educational charity or in a higher education setting. We expect the successful applicant to have substantial management experience and to have worked in science outreach/communication, widening participation in higher education and content development during their career. Experience of evaluation of public engagement/science communication projects is also essential. Experience of digital media development in a science centre or museum and income generation are both desirable.
Starting salary will be in the range £33,944 - £35,824 per annum inclusive of London Allowance depending on experience. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
