HERITAGE MANAGER (Ref 4938), Stornoway, Outer Hebrides
£36,160 - £39,401 per annum
This is an exciting time for heritage services in the Outer Hebrides. A £13.5 million project led by Comhairle nan Eilean Siar with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund will create a new museum and archive as part of the redevelopment of the historic Lews Castle.
The development will also incorporate commercially operated hospitality facilities in an outstanding environment, creating a unique visitor destination and a gateway to the heritage and culture of the islands.
We are looking for a dynamic Heritage Manager, based in Stornoway, who will play a key role in delivering the vision for the new museum and archive and shaping the visitor experience. You will understand the importance of commercial and income generating activities and how these can be developed to support the learning and broader objectives of the heritage service.
You will lead and manage the existing museum service team through a change management process to create a customer focused heritage service that will exceed the expectations of its priority audiences across the islands.
Engagement and partnership with community heritage organisations are core objectives of the project. The project will have a strong Gaelic ethos, reflecting the culture of the islands. If you are not already a Gaelic speaker you must be willing to learn the language to communicative ability standard.
You must be educated to Degree level and have a good working knowledge of the heritage sector. Experience in Museum, Archives, Arts or Gallery management or transferable related experience is essential, as is a track record of managing budgets and proven experience of project management. You must have a current driving licence and access to a vehicle.
Fixed term contract for an initial period of three years.
