The University of Portsmouth's School of Creative Arts, Film and Media, in partnership with the British Universities Film and Video Council, and with the support of the Arts and Humanities Research Council presents:
CHANNEL 4 AND BRITISH FILM CULTURE
London, BFI Southbank, NFT3
Coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the launch of Channel 4, and combining conference proceedings with a programme of screenings, this conference will function both as a retrospective celebration of Channel 4's influence on British film culture, and a means of taking stock in order to debate the future role of public service broadcasters in the film industry.
Conference proceedings will take place on the 1st and 2nd of November.
There will be an opening event on the evening of the 31st October and a programme of special screenings with invited speakers is planned (details TBC) for both of the following days (directly after the conference proceedings).
We invite proposals for papers on any aspect of Channel 4's 30-year contribution to British film culture. Topics may include

MeCCSA is the subject association for the field of media, communication and cultural studies in UK Higher Education. Membership is open to all who teach and research these subjects in HE institutions, via either institutional or individual membership. The field includes film and TV production, journalism, radio, photography, creative writing, publishing, interactive media and the web; and it includes higher education for media practice as well as for media studies.
