I'd first simply grep for the numerical part of the CREAM job id on all log files to get more infos (e.g. CREAM logs, /var/log/secure for the sudo, or gridftp log for transfers etc.). From there you get the "lrmsAbsJobId" property if the job got submitted, which you can use with tracejob, checkjob, etc. on the Torque server, although in your case I'd guess the error lies earlier. Using the debug parameter on the client commands is also worth trying. Note that upgrading a glite CREAM is not supported (which, if I remember correctly, brought up similar errors before on this list).
