Dear Friends:
1. The April 2012 EPC Newsletter<http://www.euthanasiaprevention.on.ca/Newsletters/Newsletter.128.Apr.RGB.pdf> is online: http://www.euthanasiaprevention.on.ca/Newsletters/Newsletter.128.Apr.RGB.pdf
2. We need people who live in these areas to attend the following debates<http://www.alexschadenberg.blogspot.ca/2012/04/debates-on-euthanasia-and-assisted.html>:
* Vancouver BC tonight (April 12) at 7:00 pm - Dr. Will Johnston, President EPC-BC is debating Wanda Morris from Dying with Dignity at Simon Fraser University - SFU - Harbourside Campus Room 1900, 515 West Hastings St.

* More debate locations will be provided in future updates.
3. The Quebec Dying with Dignity (euthanasia) Commission was released a few weeks ago recommending the legalization of Belgium-style euthanasia, under the term medical-aid in dying. The Quebec government is being urged by the report to implement the recommendations by June 2013. EPC will vigorously oppose<http://www.alexschadenberg.blogspot.ca/2012/03/euthanasia-prevention-coalition-epc.html> the implementation of euthanasia in Quebec.
4. The Quebec euthanasia commission made many false statements in their report. The Royal Society of Canada euthanasia report, organized by Jocelyn Downie also made several false statements. Euthanasia is being promoted based on false ideas and the intentional confusion created by the euthanasia lobby.
- To counter the false ideas and intentional confusion, EPC is producing a pamphlet/bulletin titled: Protecing People in English and French. We are taking orders now. We are requesting a donation of $25 for 100 copies and $100 for 500 copies (plus postage). It will be available next month. http://www.euthanasiaprevention.on.ca/Donations.htm.
5. The Council of Canadians with Disabilities (CCD) responded to the pro-euthanasia<http://www.alexschadenberg.blogspot.ca/2012/03/globals-taking-mercy-portrays-people.html> 16 x 9 Global News show by asking that Global News produce a show from their perspective. http://www.alexschadenberg.blogspot.ca/2012/03/globals-taking-mercy-portrays-people.html.
EPC responded to the Taking Mercy Show.

http://www.alexschadenberg.blogspot.ca/2012/04/euthanasia-prevention-coalition-speaks.html.
6. In Vermont, a bill to legalize assisted suicide<http://www.alexschadenberg.blogspot.ca/2012/04/vermont-attaching-assisted-suicide-bill.html>, that died in committee, may be brought into the Vermont Senate through the back door by attaching it to a tanning bed regulation bill. http://www.alexschadenberg.blogspot.ca/2012/04/vermont-attaching-assisted-suicide-bill.html.
7. Margaret Dore has written an excellent article explaining the pitfalls of the Massachusetts Initiative<http://www.alexschadenberg.blogspot.ca/2012/04/massachusetts-assisted-suicide-bill-is.html> to legalize assisted suicide. http://www.alexschadenberg.blogspot.ca/2012/04/massachusetts-assisted-suicide-bill-is.html
8. Court cases in Canada:
- The Carter case in Vancouver BC is attempting to legalize euthanasia and assisted suicide in Canada through the court. EPC and EPC - BC co-intervened in the Carter case<http://alexschadenberg.blogspot.com/2011/10/euthanasia-prevention-coalition-granted.html>.
- The Leblanc case is attempting to legalize assisted suicide in Canada through the court. EPC and Vivre dans la Dignite have asked to co-intervene<http://www.alexschadenberg.blogspot.ca/2012/02/canada-update-court-cases-seek-to.html> in the Leblanc case in Quebec.
- EPC has raised about $44,000 of the $54,000 legal cost for intervening in the Carter case and the Leblanc case. Please donate towards the cost of intervening<http://www.euthanasiaprevention.on.ca/Donations.htm> in the Carter case and the Leblanc case.
- EPC has applied for intervener standing at the Supreme Court of Canada in the Rasouli case, a case that seeks to give doctors the right to withdraw life-sustaining medical treatment without the consent. EPC intervened in the Rasouli case at the Ontario Court of Appeal<http://www.alexschadenberg.blogspot.ca/2011/06/court-of-appeal-rules-on-landmark-end.html> when they unanimously decided that doctors need to obtain consent before withdrawing life-sustaining treatment.
9. The First-European Symposium on Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide will be September 7 - 8, 2012 in Edinburgh Scotland.
10. EPC is urging more of its supporters to become regular monthly donors. Donations to EPC<http://www.euthanasiaprevention.on.ca/Donations.htm> can be made online, by cheque, or by credit card by calling the EPC office at: 1-877-439-3348. Link: http://www.euthanasiaprevention.on.ca/Donations.htm
You can help EPC pay for the Carter and Leblanc court interventions without any cost to you by contacting Real Estate for Life<http://www.realestateforlife.org/EPCC/> when you want to sell your home. The service is free and EPC will receive a small percentage from the sale of your home.
* Follow the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition on facebook<http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Euthanasia-Prevention-Coalition/138827297524>.
