All
As everyone should know, the inaugural face-to-face meeting of the DCMI
Bibliographic Metadata Task Group will take place at the British Library in
London on Thursday 26 April 2012, from 09.30 to 12.30.
(The DCMI Vocabulary Management Community meets in the same place during
the afternoon, so there is an opportunity to feed relevant points from the
Task Group meeting into the more general considerations of the Community.)
We are now putting together an agenda for the meeting. As a Task Group, the
main outcome of the meeting should be a set of tasks with deliverables that
we think we can accomplish before the end of the year.
We are currently focussed on application profiles and aligments and
mappings between element sets and value vocabularies, but are not limited
to these topics.
The draft agenda includes:
* Developments in the Dublin Core Abstract Model and Application Profile
infrastructure.
* General models and structures as building blocks for bibliographic
description.
* Consolidation of IFLA's Functional Requirements family of models.
* Alignment and mapping of International Standard Bibliographic Description
with RDA: resource description and access.
* Internationalization and multilingual issues affecting mappings and
application profiles.
Please send any suggestions for additional items to this list, or privately
to Gordon or Diane (Hillmann). Take advantage of this opportunity bringing
together players from a wide range of bibliographic metadata communities!
Please also circulate to the list any documentation or other information
that you think is relevant to the meeting and the work of the Task Group.
All comments and suggestions are welcome.
Finally, please note that there are very few places left for either the
Bibliographic Metadata Task Group or the Vocabulary Management Community
meetings. If you wish to attend and have not done so, you should register
immediately at:
http://dcevents.dublincore.org/index.php/BibData/fyo/about/registration
Registration for the meetings is free; please follow the on-screen
instructions.
Looking forward to seeing many of you in London!
Cheers
Gordon
