1. ALT News
1.1 Honorary Life Membership of ALT
This year's call for nominations for Honorary Life Membership of ALT has
now been issued.
ALT awards Honorary Life Membership (HLM) to individuals whom ALT
believes have made an outstanding and sustained contribution to the
advancement of ALT's aims for the development of learning technology in
a regional, national or international context through research,
practice, policy-development, leadership, or a combination of these.
The deadline for nomination is Friday, 18 May 2012.

1.2 2012 ALT Learning Technologist of the Year Award
The entry form will published during week beginning 16 April, with a
closing date for entries towards the end of May.
1.3 Trustee elections
Elections for two people to serve for three years as Trustees of ALT and
for one person to serve for three years as a Trustee of ALT in the
sequential roles of Vice Chair, Chair, and then President will start
with the issue of nomination papers during week beginning 23 April. The
closing date for nominations will be towards the end of May.
1.4 Call for expressions of interest in membership of each of ALT's four
main operational committees
This will be issued in June 2012, with the closing date likely to be in
early September, for those appointed to take part in their first
committee meeting in October.
1.5 Final call: Digital Inclusion and Learning - Papers for a Special
Issue of Research in Learning Technology

2. ALT events
2.1 Large-scale curriculum redesign where technology plays a central
role 21 May 2012
We are running this event with the Association of Colleges (AoC). The
aim of the conference is to provide delegates with ideas and strategies
for curriculum redesign which will have an impact on large numbers of
learners. The full programme will be confirmed shortly but will include
a complementary mixture of 6 or 7 presentations from people with
practical experience and evidence to present.

2.2 Teaching computer science and computational thinking in the
classroom - What the research says?
A free workshop sponsored by BESA (British Educational Suppliers
Association) and the Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) Research
Programme and supported by the Association for Learning Technology
(ALT), 27 April, 2012 at The London Knowledge Lab.
Attendees will be able to hear talks from industry, academics, policy
makers and practitioners, see research prototypes, learn about current
research projects and findings and meet other like-minded people. They
will also be able to shape the structure and content of future events in
this series.

3.1 Desire2Learn Edge Challenge 2012: $25,000 Prize
Desire2Learn announces a competition that challenges professional
developers and students to shape the future of education by building
apps that improve the experience of teachers, students, and
administrators. The competition invites teams of up to five individuals
to create a working software solution on a mobile web platform to
illustrate an innovative approach to creating or collaborating within an
active learning experience. The winning team will receive a cash prize
of $25,000, and the opportunity to travel to San Diego to attend FUSION
2012, Desire2Learn's Annual Users' Conference and present their
prototype. Submissions must be received by 30 April 2012.

3.2 ICTs Inspire Innovation in eLearning Africa Photo Competition
Under the theme of "The African Century: ICTs Inspiring Innovation",
budding photographers are encouraged to send in their photos depicting
how ICTs are enhancing the way individuals and communities in Africa
live, learn, cooperate and connect, accompanied by a brief description
outlining the inspiration behind their idea.

4.1 Future Tense - the Goldsmiths Learning and Teaching Conference, 18
May 2012
Goldsmiths Learning and Enhancement Unit is hosting an international
conference to profile individuals or groups of staff and projects, that
have shaped, challenged or shifted learning and teaching in their higher
education contexts.
Martin Conreen, who lectures in Goldsmiths' Design Department, and Mark
Miodownik, Professor of Materials and Society at University College and
Royal Institute Christmas Lecturer, will be giving the keynote.

5.1 Call for papers for the Immersive Education Initiative, Paris
Summit, 26-27 November
The theme for the 2nd European Immersive Education (iED) Summit is:
Immersive Education: combining creativity, art and pedagogy. The two-day
event is open to the global academic community and experts in immersion,
simulation, learning games, virtual reality and full, augmented and
mixed reality.

5.2 Call for Papers: IEEE International Conference on Teaching,
Assessment, and Learning for Engineering 2012 (TALE 2012), 20-23 August
2012, Hong Kong
This new conference will be held annually in the Asia-Pacific region
beginning in 2012, and is intended to complement existing conferences
sponsored by the IEEE Education Society, most notably Frontiers in
Education in North America and EDUCON in Europe/Middle East/Africa. The
theme for the 2012 conference is "Fostering Innovation and Excellence in
Engineering Education". The deadline for paper submissions is 30 April 2012.

JISC elevator is a new way to find and fund innovative ways to use
