How to collect, work with and manage the archives in your care
=========
List members might like to know there are a few places for Creating
Capacity's Archival Collections course next Monday. If you are responsible
for managing archives, but have no archival training, you will find
attending Archival Collections on 30 April really helpful. It's a
brilliantly tailored course for staff and volunteers to learn how to manage
archives in line with professional archival standards.
Elizabeth Oxborrow-Cowan will be leading the session. Elizabeth is a
Consultant Archivist and qualified management consultant. She holds the Seal
of Recognition issued by the Chartered Institute of Library and Information
Professionals which recognizes the quality of the training and its relevance
to CILIP’s Body of Professional Knowledge.
What are the benefits of attending?
----------
As a result of this course participants will grow in confidence in archival
matters. The session focuses on:
* Understanding what archives are and how they differ from other collection
types
* Writing a collecting policy
* Understanding relevant archival standards for cataloguing, storing and
handling
* Understanding how to meet the needs of different user groups
Time will be spent analysing delegates’ own preservation issues, so expect
to discuss possible solutions. Participants have consistently valued
Elizabeth's relaxed and informative training style. As two participants
said,
'Really excellent presentation style and knowledge - Elizabeth is a good
teacher!'
'Enthusiastic delivery, very willing to let us participate'
