About Malmö University:
Malmö University is the ninth largest institute of higher education in Sweden with about 25,000
students. Our education and research culture is cross-disciplinary, problem-oriented and socially
relevant. Malmö University is organised into four faculties and one school: the faculties of Health
and Society, Culture and Society, Education and Society and Odontology and the School of
Technology.
About Malmö Institute for Studies of Migration, Welfare and Diversity (MIM):
MIM was established in 2007 as a joint research institute of Malmö University focusing on
migration research. The Institute has around 20 associated researchers (including the Guest
Professorship in Memory of Willy Brandt), one doctoral studentship and a research fellow
financed by the City of Malmö. Over the years, a long line of prominent, internationally renowned
researchers have held the Guest Professorship and, after five years, the Institute is now in a
phase when it is important to maintain a high standard of quality while at the same time renewing
and improving the research environment so that it inspires our staff to develop MIM into one of
the leading institutes in Europe in the field of migration research.
The post of Director and responsibilities:
As Director, you will be responsible for leading the Institute's strategic development. You will lead,
plan and monitor the Institute's progress in accordance with its objectives and plan of activities
regarding both content and finance. The successful candidate will also be responsible for
strengthening and shaping the research environment as an integrated and interactive component
of the University's migration research. Developing a worldwide network of contacts and providing
the Institute with communicative support are also important aspects of the position in order to
enhance Malmö University's brand, profile and image. You will also be responsible for
disseminating development results, research findings and new-found knowledge. Internally, you
will be expected to initiate consultation and information exchange with the relevant parties within
the University.
The post of Director also involves coordinating applications for external funding within the
Institute's various areas of activity, leading the research seminar forum, supervising doctoral
students and conducting your own research.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will combine good researcher skills with the ability to lead, inspire and
develop research environments for the long term as well as represent the Institute and Malmö
University in various networks.
The new director shall have recognised qualifications at the professorial level, be well established
in the field of migration research and have experience of attracting external funding.
As a person, you are creative, inventive and have the ability to adapt to different circumstances.
You like to work at a fast tempo and are able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Other information:
This is a full-time, permanent post on a 4-year appointment as Director of MIM. Starting date by
agreement. We employ an individual salary-setting system. Malmö University is a workplace
