Dear Christian,
it took a while but eventually I continued the project (modulation after/with
deformation). It turns out that the spm_def2det function (HDR toolbox) was
not found at first (SPM8 rev4290), but after adding this to the matlab search
path it works. I do not know why SPM8 does not do this by default, but maybe
you could modify your script/documentation accordingly.
Another "nice" aspect of the deformation toolbox is, that voxel size /
bounding box may be changed in the process. Your cg_vbm8_defs script seems to
use the 1.5mm default resolution. Do you think it was feasible to include
this function in the next version?
Many thanks,
Niels

Dear Niels,
the VBM8 toolbox has an option to apply deformations with modulations in:
