I think that if Google suddenly disappears then the world will have bigger problems to face then the location of data on gender equality in science!
However I have been stung in the past relying on a lesser known file storage site which rebranded, lost many of the files in the transfer to new servers and then closed down completely. So it is sensible to think these things through.
However I think Google would be a pretty safe bet.

Subject: Re: [PSCI-COM] Online community AND online storage Your recommendations please
I have been interested to see this thread of discussion. May I throw out
2 questions - which I regularly reflect on myself in my own projects.
(1) how do you feel about entrusting time-critical and even moderately
sensitive information to services provided by companies that come out of
nowhere on the back of a dollop of venture capital and might easily
disappear tomorrow? (few of these companies have any sensible business
model). I would say, in general, if it's free don't touch it; the
internet is never 'free as in beer' and free at point of use means the
company is going to do things with your information and the information
of your members. (And yes, I know I am writing this using a 'free' email
service.)
(2) are any of these services actually in line with the written
requirements of data protection and research ethics that most of us are
required to operate by? For example, Dropbox caused a stir last year
when it changed its terms and conditions to assert a Facebook-like right
to use data stored on its servers for commercial purposes at some future
time (I did not look into the details, but it was something like that).
It seems to me that the only secure way to operate a shared service is
to use a paid-for internet service provider and to run a private
Wordpress, Drupal, etc server. The tools are open source, free and out
there - but it is technically demanding both to set up and to maintain
such servers. But it is a skillset that needs to be more widely
distributed.
