Hello All
In building our new website I'm wanting to include something relating to one of the manors that was sold as part of the estate in 1846.
I've been trying to find "plain language" definitions to use as "hover-over pip-ups" but most of the things I've found make little sense to me let alone anyone with no knowledge of history at all. I 'sort of' know what some of them are, but it's not something I had any dealings with before, and I'm not confident with it.
Does anybody have simple explanations for the following in a manorial context? :
Quit Rents
Fines Arbitrary
Heriots
Royalties
Rights - I assume this is used in the conventional sense but it's not clear whose rights - presumably the Lords?
Members and Appurtenances thereto pertaining
Copyhold Lands
Improved Rent
Thanks
