Subject: [Ossg-announcements] HMG/OSSG Open Source Events
UK HMG/OSSG Open Source Awareness Events
A series of internal HMG events has been organized by the UK Home Office and the BCS Open Source SG (OSSG) http://ossg.bcs.org/ for UK Civil Servants. The background is that the UK Home Office is now responsible for taking the lead in looking into Open Source adoption across the whole of UK Central Government, hence the involvement with OSSG in putting together these Open Source Awareness Events.
Feedback from the first event held on 21st February 2012 indicated a positive initial reception and registrations for the second event to be held on 20th March 2012 show there is a definite interest in the topics being covered. Speakers look to have been fully sourced for events 3,4, and 5. The composition of speakers for Event 6 is yet to be decided, which will seek to cover solid examples of Open Source Software use, ideally already being used somewhere within HMG or transferable to HMG.
There is discussion taking place within Home Office and HMG about the possibility of taking these series events with OSSG further through the use of a Roadshow across the various regions.
