Last year, Jane Campbell, an independent member of the UK's House of Lords, persuaded the Joint Committee on Human Rights to hold an inquiry into independent living and how the UK is doing on implementing the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The Inquiry's report - based on evidence given by many disabled people and their organisations - recommends incorporating a right to independent living, and to advocacy, in legislation and exposes the way the current government's welfare reforms mark a step backwards for disabled people. The report is published today http://www.parliament.uk/business/committees/committees-a-z/joint-select/human-rights-committee/news/independent-living-report/
And I've written a blog about it http://jennymorrisnet.blogspot.com/2012/03/lords-and-mps-call-for-legal-right-to.html
