Dear Friends:
Over the past few weeks there have not been any change concerning the Carter case in Vancouver or the Leblanc case in Quebec.
EPC is co-sponsoring a talk by Margaret Somerville in London Ontario on March 7, 2012 at 7:30 pm at Brescia College (Western University). Her topic is: The Case Against Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide<http://www.alexschadenberg.blogspot.com/2012/01/case-against-euthanasia-and-assisted.html>.
There will be a EPC meeting in Vancouver in the evening on Sunday March 11. If you wish to attend contact us at: [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>
This week, EPC is submitting our request to intervene in the Rasouli case at the Supreme Court of Canada. The Rasouli case seeks to establish that doctors can withdraw life-sustaining treatment, without obtaining consent from the patient or the substitute decision maker. Last year EPC successfully intervened in the Rasouli case at the Ontario Court of Appeal, where the three judge panel decided that doctors were required to obtain consent before withdrawing life-sustaining treatment.
EPC and Vivre <http://www.vivredignite.com/> dans la <http://www.vivredignite.com/> Dignité <http://www.vivredignite.com/> has requested co-intervener standing in the Leblanc case in Quebec, a case that seeks to legalize assisted suicide in Canada. The Crown and the lawyer for Ms. Leblanc supported our application for intervener standing, but the Judge has yet to decide. The next trial date is June 15, 2012 Trois-Rivières Quebec..
The cost to intervene in the Leblanc case will be more than $50,000. If we are granted a wider-intervener standing, enabling us to call witnesses, cross-examine witnesses and bring affidavits, our cost will soar to more than $100,000. EPC<http://www.euthanasiaprevention.on.ca/Donations.htm> needs you support<http://www.euthanasiaprevention.on.ca/Donations.htm>.
EPC sent the Attorney General of Canada (AG) 33,073 names on our petition against euthanasia and assisted suicide. Since we are involved in the Leblanc case, we are continuing to collect petitions to the AG. You can download it<http://www.euthanasiaprevention.on.ca/petition.htm> or sign the online petition<http://www.euthanasiaprevention.on.ca/signonline.htm>. We have received several thousand more petition names.
* We are asking our supporters to write hand-written letters to the (AG) and Member of Parliament. Link to the strategy<http://alexschadenberg.blogspot.com/2012/01/assisted-suicide-case-in-british.html>.
The Carter case, which is an attempt to legalize euthanasia and assisted suicide in Canada was heard in Vancouver. EPC and EPC - BC intervened in the Carter case<http://alexschadenberg.blogspot.com/2011/10/euthanasia-prevention-coalition-granted.html>. We are waiting for the decision.
We have raised more than $36,000 of the current $53,000 legal cost for intervening in the Carter/Leblanc cases.
Please donate towards the cost of intervening<http://www.euthanasiaprevention.on.ca/Donations.htm> in the Carter case and the Leblanc case.
Mobile euthanasia teams in the Netherlands<http://www.alexschadenberg.blogspot.com/2012/03/mobile-euthanasia-units-started-in.html> began killing people on March 1. This is a natural outcome of a law that gives one person the right to directly and intentionally kill another person, the only question is - who will die. Reports claim that their is huge demand for the mobile euthanasia teams but this is not surprising considering the media attention.
EPC is distributing the report of the Parliamentary Committee on Palliative and Compassionate Care<http://pcpcc-cpspsc.com/report> and the book Keep Breathing<http://loveundefiled.blogspot.com/2011/10/book-review-keep-breathing-by-adam.html>. If you want to receive one of these items please indicate it with your donation.
EPC is selling the DVD sets of the Third International Symposium on Euthanasia and <http://alexschadenberg.blogspot.com/2011/06/third-international-symposium-on.html> Assisted Suicide<http://alexschadenberg.blogspot.com/2011/06/third-international-symposium-on.html> for $50 for one or $80 for two sets. You must indicate that you are purchasing the Symposium DVD's when you send money.
A bill to prevent assisted suicide in Georgia<http://www.alexschadenberg.blogspot.com/2012/02/widow-of-final-exit-network-victim-john.html> has passed in the legislative committee.
Hearings are occuring today concerning the assisted-suicide initiative in Massachusetts. Link<http://www.alexschadenberg.blogspot.com/2012/03/announcement-from-second-thoughts-in.html>.
The First-European Symposium on Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide will be September 7 - 8, 2012 in Edinburgh Scotland.
EPC is intervening in court cases to protect you from euthanasia and assisted suicide. EPC will make at least three court interventions in 2012. With your support, we will be successful. Link to donate or become a member<http://www.euthanasiaprevention.on.ca/Donations.htm>.
A good way to help EPC pay for these court interventions without costing you anything is by contacting Real Estate for Life<http://www.realestateforlife.org/EPCC/> when you are deciding to sell your home. The service is free and EPC will receive money from the sale of your home.

If you do not wish to receive emails from EPC please ask to unsubscribe. We will be disappointed but willing to do so.
Thank you for your support
