I do know 2 members of academic staff got into BIG trouble when they expressed a (very) negative view of students on Twitter. I have the usual disclaimer on my Twitter account but try to make sure I don't say anything I wouldn't want my boss to hear or would be upset if the Student newspaper picked up (especially if taken out of context)
As for training, I've not really had any training because I don't use it for work....

I'm interested to know how many people have had any kind of training in
social media or guidance from their employer. We had an excellent day's
training on Enhancing Customer Experience Using Social Media with Lisa
Jenkins and also had a presentation from one of our younger readers
about how to improve our Facebook pages. I know RNIB has a
communications policy for use of Twitter but I haven't read it as I'm
not directly involved in tweeting for work. I'd be interested to know if
other organisations have policies which restrict individuals use of
Twitter or is it enough to say on your profile "all views are my own and
not those of my employer"?
