I have the usual disclaimer on my Twitter account but try to make sure I don't say anything I wouldn't want my boss to hear or would be upset if the Student newspaper picked up (especially if taken out of context)
I think this is an interesting issue - the same comments said in a
public place or overheard or picked up from email would have the same
impact I think so arguably all the usual employment terms and conditions
apply but it is always worth clearly reminding people that what they do
and say in public does reflect upon their professional role and
organisation. But there is nothing unique about social media when
thinking about appropriate/inappropriate comments (other than the fact
that inappropriate comments can be shared and seen much more quickly vis
social media).
