Only guessing but it sounds to me as If some of the privileges might be co-dependent so that some of the features you have turned off prevent other features from working. I guess the only way to test this would be by giving the student unrestricted owner privileges and if that worked to try removing features one at a time. As you say the lack of up to date support material makes this impossible to verify other than by trial and error.
I would ditch LO tomorrow if only there were a sensible alternative but I was told at a meeting the other week that Bb have nothing in their road map for any significant changes to their very basic tools. They are apparently not trying to compete with learning objects and see the blackboard tools purely as in course assessment type features. With no sharing beyond the course members they would be useless to many of our users. There is not even an export facility.

Subject: Permissions query - modify blog appearance
Greetings,
This may be related to John Smith's recent permission query, but it's something that has me stumped.
A blog was created in a Bb course. It's a single blog, with author rights given to only one student in the course.
Everyone in the class can view the blog. The student has been given customised 'owner' privileges with some specifically removed (edit blog title, edit blog description, purge the entire blog, purge any entry, manage blog). This should allow the student to still modify the blog appearance and sharing.
When the student logs into Bb and clicks the blog, they can click the 'permissions' link to update sharing privileges (as expected). However, when they click 'settings', they can change their profile image and PLS colour scheme but can't actually change the *blog* appearance.
What am I missing? It seems like the only person who can change the *blog* appearance is the instructor who created the blog. That's not useful when the student is supposed to be the one performing the action, according to the privileges.
Thanks in advance for any ideas you may have - the LO support materials are over a year out of date, LO support tickets are taking quite literally months to get anything beyond the automated response, and their promised support portal doesn't exist (it's also several months overdue).
All the best,
Trav.
