University College London - UCL Institute for Women's Health

Full Time: The appointment will be on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £32,055 - £38,744 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Associate (biostatistician/statistical geneticist) to join the Department of Women's Cancer within the Institute for Women's Health (IfWH), UCL. The department performs both scientific and clinical research into all women specific cancers and has a particular emphasis on ovarian cancer screening. Professor Martin Widschwendter is Head of Department and has core interest in translational research as reflected by his additional role as lead of the Translational Epigenetic group.

The successful candidate will work on a project involving the epigenetic analysis of the National Survey of Health and Development (NSHD) Medical Research Council (MRC) 1946 Birth Cohort with the aim to identify and associate epigenetic markers, such as DNA methylation (DNAme), with cancer predisposition as well as other crucial epidemiological data available in the cohort, and also to explore the impact of tissue specificity on DNAme signatures and the power of their association with clinical endpoints.

Dr Andrew Teschendorff who leads the Statistical Cancer Genomics group at the UCL Cancer Institute is a close collaborator of the Women's Cancer Department and will be involved in the supervision of the successful candidate.

The post is funded for 2 year in the first instance.

Applicants should hold a doctoral degree (PhD) in Statistical Bioinformatics or a related mathematical discipline (e.g. statistics, computer science, physics, engineering) and have experience of R and Bioconductor, and preferably also with Matlab, Perl, Python or C. Experience in high performance computing, Linux cluster and database management would be desirable, as would a background in epidemiology.
